Piotr Toczyski, MPsych, PhD, is a psychologist and sociologist with a strong scientific background in educational science and pedagogy. He obtained his master's degree at the Faculty of Psychology, University of Warsaw, studying under the supervision of Prof. Janusz Grzelak the potential of media in mitigating social conflicts. He complemented his psychology studies with a two-level postgraduate qualification in psychological assistance and crisis intervention granted after a two-year practical training at the Institute of Health Psychology of the Polish Psychological Association (PTP). He is a member of PTP and a certified supervisor of annual internships for psychologists entering the profession, who are working towards obtaining the European EuroPsy certificate, certifying that they practice psychology according to the standard of the European Federation of Psychological Associations EFPA.


He received his PhD in sociology from the Polish Academy of Sciences (Institute of Philosophy and Sociology: IFiS PAN). He gained his scientific experience during scholarships and internships in Germany, Sweden, Great Britain, and the United States, and as a supervisor of thirty master's theses in Internet studies at Collegium Civitas. For three years, he was the principal research specialist at the interactive technologies laboratory of a national research institute. Since 2008 he has been affiliated with the Maria Grzegorzewska University (APS), where he heads an independent media and social communication department and a related graduate specialization at the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the APS.


Dr Piotr Toczyski shares his work in books and journals published under the prestigious banners of Springer, Palgrave Macmillan, Association for Computing Machinery, Frontiers Media, among others.


Together with Prof. Andrzej Jaczewski, nestor of Polish pedagogy and co-author of the first in Poland research on suicidal behavior of people of developmental age, he conducted an eight-year long Internet research in action on digital inclusion of seniors. The social impact of this study manifested itself in half a thousand professorial articles published online, which attracted 2 million visits from Internet users and prompted them to comment creatively on the content more than 9,000 times in a digital dialogue between generations.


Dr. Toczyski has many years of management experience from the Polish and international non-governmental sector. He was president of an organization for creative media education in a collaborative experience, funded among others by the Embassies of the Netherlands, the United States and a European Commission program. He also served as a board member of a Brussels-based European organization for a new generation of media makers and social communication practitioners funded directly by the European Commission. He worked in the private sector for seven years as an independent market analyst in a publicly listed media company. He was responsible for dozens of research projects, both permanent and ad hoc, supporting the development of new online products. He co-created the market standard for the study of visitors to websites and web applications. He also completed a leadership development program at the Ivey Business School in Canada. He is a frequent guest on Tok FM radio. He completed postgraduate studies in relaxation techniques for yoga instructors at the Warsaw University of Physical Education.
